theory related hypotheses that have been tested and confirmed many times that answer "why" questions
law explanations of observations that answer, but do not describe why something happens.
compound light microscope microscope in which light passes through multiple lenses.
magnification the number of times an object has been enlarged
resolution how clear the image is
stage where the slide is placed on the microscope
eyepiece where the observer looks through the microscope which contains a lenses which magnifies the object 10 times
objectives lenses of magnification which vary from 4x to 100x. The longer the objective, the higher the magnification
stage clips used to hold the microscope in place
iris diaphragm adjusts the amount of light
arm connects the stage to the eyepiece
coarse focus used to focus the object when using the 4x objective. Moves the stage in large amounts
fine focus used to focus the object on 10X, 40x, and 100x. Moves the stage in very small amounts.
inference a logical conclusion drawn from observations
interdependence the interactions of organisms with the living and nonliving environment
experimental group the test group that experiences a change
