| Term | Definition |

| INFERENCE | a idea or conclusion drawn from evidence and reasoning. |
| HYPOTHESIS | an assumption or idea that proposed for the sake of the argument so you can test it to be true or not. |
| CONTROL GROUP | the group or experiment that's not being tested |
| EXPERIMENTAL GROUP | the group in the experiment that gets tested |
| INDEPENDENT VARIABLE | variable that stands alone and isn't changed by the other variables you are trying to measure |
| DEPENDENT VARIABLE | what you measure in the experiment and what is affected during the experiment |
| CONSTANT | the factors the doesn't change in the experiment |
| QUANTITATIVE DATA | data that can measured in numerical values |
| QUALITIVE DATA | data representing information and concepts that are not represented by numbers |
| CONCLUSION | a statement based on experimental measurements and observations |
| SCIENTIFIC THEORY | a well-substantiated explanation of an aspect of the natural world that can incorporate laws, hypotheses and facts |
| SCIENTIFIC LAW | the description of a naturally occurring phenomena in the world |
