| Celestial Sphere- | the hollow bowl in which field of stars appear to us(matter of perspective)(our brains cant comprahend distance |
| Pointer Stars | two stars that point a constellation (when an imaginary line is drawn between them) |
| Constellation | a pattern of stars in a particular patter that have a meaning to them (88 constilations) |
| Zodiac | band that stretches a path that the sun, moon, and other planets roughly follow |
| Horizon | a line in which the earths surface and sky appear to meet. |
| Precession of Equinoxes | gravitational influence of the sun and moon by the earths influence |
| Autumnal Equinox | sun crosses the equator from the Northern to the Southern Hemisphere, and appears directly above the Earth's equator |
| Vernal Equinox | astronomical start of spring in the Northern Hemisphere |
| Solar Day | ****time between two successive transits by the sun**** |
| Circumpolar | continuously visible above the horizon (ex: little dipper) |
| Zenith | highest point traveled by a star |
| Right Ascension | the astronomical equivalent of longitude |
| Declination | latitude of the celestial sphere |
| South Celestial Pole | south part of the celestial equator |
| North Celestial Pole | norther part of the celestial equator |
| Celestial Equator | a projection of Earth's equator into space that divides the celestial sphere into the northern and southern hemispheres |
