Planets

Study the planets of our Solar System!

TermDefinition
Mercury The closest planet to the Sun. It is also the smallest planet. It is a rocky, inner planet.
Venus The second planet from the sun. This planet is sometimes called “Earth’s twin” because it is about the same size as Earth. This is the hottest planet. It is a rocky, inner planet.
Earth The third planet from the Sun. The distance between this planet and the Sun is just right for living things. It is a rocky, inner planet.
Mars The fourth planet from the sun. It is known as the “Red Planet” because its soil makes it look red. This planet is a rocky, inner planet.
Jupiter The fifth planet from the Sun. It is the largest planet. This planet is a gaseous, outer planet.
Saturn The sixth planet from the sun. It is known for the rings that go around it. It is a gaseous, outer planet.
Uranus The seventh planet from the sun. It glows green. This planet is a gaseous, outer planet.
Neptune The farthest, eighth, planet from the Sun. . From Earth, it looks blue. It is a gaseous, outer planet.
