Reasons to take Progestion (Contraindications to estrogen) Estrogen + breast cancer, women breast feeding, Hx of clot
S/E of Progestin irregular bleeding, ACHES, less risk of clotting, higher risk of wt gain, possible mood changes & decreased sex drive
S/E of Excess Estrogen N/V, dizziness, fluid retention, bloating, breast enlargement, headache
S/E of Def. Estrogen vaginal bleeding, decrease menstrual flow, nervousness, dyspareunia
Drug Interactions with OC Antibiotics (doxycycline, tetracycline, ampicillin) Anti-seizures (rofampin, dilantin, tegretol) Herbal Products (St. John's Wart)
Most Dangerous S/E risk for clot, teach pt to watch for ACHES
Timing Take pills as close to time as possible every day. If missed pill see chart for makeup (one-take immediately).Progestin only is extremely time sensitive
