Understanding patterns in the movement of the Earth, its moon and stars.
| Term | Definition |

| axis | Imaginary line that goes through the center of an object. for Earth, this line passes the North Pole, through the center to the South Pole. |
| rotation | The spinning of a planet of a planet, moon or star around its axis. |
| revolution | The movement of one object around another. |
| orbit | The path an object follows as it revolves around another object. |
| ellipse | Like a circle, but stretched out at opposite ends. This is the shape of Earth's path around the sun. |
| constellation | Patterns of stars that appear in shapes. |
| Northern Hemisphere | The half of Earth that is north of the Equator. |
| Southern Hemisphere | The half of the Earth that is south of the Equator. |
| moon phases | Different shapes of the moon that appear to be seen from Earth. |
| eclipse | When an object in space gets between the sun and another object and casts a shadow on the other object. |
| Solar Eclipse | When the moon passes between the sun and Earth and casts its shadow on Earth. |
