Scientific Method
| Term | Definition |

| scientific method | the process scientists use to learn more about the world around them |
| observation | when we use our senses to notice things |
| research | using the internet, books, or other resources to learn more about a topic |
| hypothesis | an educated guess about the answer to our scientific question |
| plan | we make a list of the items we need and write the steps we'll follow to do our experiment |
| experiment | when we test our hypothesis to find out whether or not we're correct |
| data | pieces of information collected during the experiment |
| analyze | looking at the data and finding patterns |
| conclusion | when we determine if the experiment has proven our hypothesis to be correct or incorrect |
| independent variable | the part of the experiment that the scientist changes on purpose |
| dependent variable | the part of the experiment that changes on its own because of the experiment |
| control OR controlled variable OR constant | the part of the experiment that does not change |
