QuestionAnswer
What are the foundations of science? Order, Reality, Experience, Curiosity.
What is an observation? The process of observing someone/something to gain information.
What is an inference? The process of drawing conclusions based on evidence and reasoning.
Difference between observation and inference? Observation= something easily seen ( use of 5 senses ), Inference= guess/idea that needs to be supported
What is a manipulated variable? A variable found in experiments. Changing the variable to learn how other variables in the experiment respond.
What is an independant variable? A variable that stands alone/variable that isn't changed.
What are constants? The factors that do not change during experiments.
Difference between theories and laws? Theory= answers why/tested repeatedly/been approved, Laws= mathematical/scientific statement/tell how it happens
What do laws/theories do? Theory= allows scientists to make predictions of what they should observe if a theory is true, Laws= describe how something happens
What are the limitation of science? Not being able to answer questions that deal with opinions, beliefs, values, and feelings.
Difference between precision and accuracy? Accuracy= refers to how close a measurement is to the true or accepted value Precision= refers to how close measurements of the same item are to eachother
Difference between qualitative and quantitative data? Qualitative= descriptive, related to language data Quantitative= number-based/measureable data
Remember meaning of precise and accurate= Precise= close together, not exactly on target Accurate= in the target, may not be precise though
steps of scientific inquiry? 1. Question/observation 2. describing/explaining 3. Hypothesis 4.experimenting 5. Analyze Data 6. Conclusions 7. Communicating
identify theories and laws. Theories= theory of gravitiation, explains why apples fall from trees and why astronauts float in space, they explain Laws= The law of conversation of energy, they describe
noticing difference between observations and inferences. Observation= using 1 or more of your 5 senses to gain information, can be easily seen inference= drawn conclusions based on evidence, ex: guessing what or when
be prepared to determine measurements on images look closely, memorize amounts and what they look like, ex: 1/4 cup

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
