Nature of Science

| **controlled variable** | A possible variable that is kept the same during a particular set of observations |
| **dependent variable** | A factor that responds to, or depends on, other factors |
| **experimental bias** | An error that distorts results in a particular way |
| **hypothesis** | A tentative explanation for an observation or phenomenon |
| **independent variable** | A factor that can be changed separately, or independently |
| **International System (SI) ** | A system of unites used in science, largely based on the metric system |
| **objective** | Not particular to one person; not influenced b emotions or personal prejudices |
| **reproducible** | Capable of being produced again |
| **subjective** | Particular to one person |
| **theory** | In science, a set of widely accepted explanations of observations and phenomena |
| **trial** | One repetition of a procedure; usually several trials are made for each value of an independent variable |
| **variable** | Any factor that can change in a controlled experiment, observation, or model |
