| Proximal | closer to the center of the body; to the point of attachment to the body |
| Distal | a body part that is further away from the body's center than another part |
| Superior | toward the head or top of the body |
| Superficial | objects that are close to the body's surface |
| Deep | structure that is located farther away from the body's surface; internal |
| Central | structure that is located at or near the midpoint of another structure |
| Peripheral | something that is away from the center of the body or a body part |
| Sagittal Plane | Divides the body lengthwise into left and right portions |
| Frontal Plane | Divides the body into anterior and posterior portions |
| Transverse Plane | Divides the body horizontally, creating an upper and lower body |
