Uniformitarianism and Catastrophism

| Index Fossils | Fossils that are assumed to represent a certain period in earth's past. |
| Geological Column | A theoretical picture in which layers of rock from around the world meshed together into a single, unbroken record of earth's past. |
| The Theory of Evolution | A theory stating that all life on this earth has on (or a few) common ancestors(s) that existed a long time ago. |
| Fossil Graveyards | Large number of fossils concentrated in enormous deposits. |
| Paraconformity | A type of unconformity in which the sedimentary layers above and below the unconformity are parallel, but there is no obvious erosional break between them. |
| Catastrophism | The theory that changes in the earth's crust during geological history have resulted chiefly from sudden violent and unusual events. |
| Uniformitarianism | The theory that changes in the earth's crust during geological history have resulted from the action of continuous and uniform processes. |
| Evolved | Develop gradually, especially from a simple to a more complex form. |
| Red Tide | An event that occurs on the coastline when algae—a plant-like organism—grows out of control causing to water to turn red. |
| Coelaenth | A kind of fish found in the geological column. |
| Intermediate Link | The term originated to describe the hypothetical intermediate form in the evolutionary series of ancient ancestors to modern humans. |
| Progressive Creationist | A person who believes that God created the heavens and the earth over a period of billions of years. |
