| dependent variable | the variable being measured in an investigation. The variable that DOES NOT change. |
| engineer | a type of scientist who studies why and how things work |
| evidence | information that supports or disproves a claim |
| experimental investigation | a type of investigation involving observation or measurement, variables, and a hypothesis |
| fair test | an investigation where only one variable changes and all other factors are controlled (don't change) |
| hypothesis | a prediction based on background knowledge and research |
| independent variable | the variable CHANGED by a scientist in an investigation. The thing a scientist is testing. |
