What are bones that go down the center of your body called? The Axial Skeleton
What is the smallest bone in your body? Stirrup
What skeleton is the pelvis a part of? The Appendicular Skeleton
Example of a flat bone Sternum
What is the hard outer surface of the bone called? Compact bone
Examples of long bones Femur, fibula, and tibia
Examples of short bones Bones in the wrist and feet
What is a cavity? The inner part of the bone where blood cells are made
Examples of irregular bones Vertebrae and pelvis
What is the spongy, lacy, middle layer of the bone called? Cancellous
How many bones are in the adult skeleton? 206
Which skeleton includes bones that hang down? Appendicular
What do the ribs do? Form a protective cage for several internal organs
What is the spine made up of? Vertebrae with discs sandwiched between them
What do teeth grow out of? The maxilla and the mandible
What are your toes and fingers called? Phalanges
What is made in the bone marrow cavity? Blood cells
What are the regions of the spine? Thoracic, lumbar, and cervical
Name some axial bones Vertebrae, ribs, skull, craniu, sternum
Name some appendicular bones Pelvis, clavicle, femur, fibula, tibia, humerus, radius, ulna, scapula
Name different types of joints Fibrous, cartilaginous. synovial, ball and socket, gliding, hinge
