SIMPLE MACHINES

TermDefinition
WEDGE A simple machine that helps cut, split, or push something through.
INCLINED PLANE Helps us lift things against gravity's pull.
SCREW A curved ramp that holds things together, or raise and lower things.
LEVER Rod balanced on a fixed point to help us lift an object.
PULLEY Made from a rope and wheel with a groove. can bring things up and down. When the other end of the rope is pulled, the load is easy to lift.
WHEEL AND AXLE The axle is the rod that runs through the wheels and helps the wheels turn.
GEARS A simple machine with toothed wheels that slot together.
COMPOUND MACHINE Two or more simple machines working together.
FULCRUM The point or object that a lever tips or turns around.
CHEMISTRY The science of dealing with the composition and transformations of substances.
