What are morse taper sleeves They are used when the taper of the shank is too small to fit in the drilling machine. Used in lathes a lot
Why do we drill pilot holes Used to guide a larger drill bit and allows the bigger drill bit to cut.
What is a tapping size hole This is a hole drilled prior to cutting internal threads into a piece. It is drilled smaller to allow the tap to CUT the threads into the piece.
What size hole is needed to cut M4 threads 3.3mm
What is special about a clearance hole A clearance hole is drilled slightly larger than the bolt that is going in it to allow the bolt to move freely through the hole.
What is a machine that can make a blind hole A lathe
What is countersinking It is when the mouth of a hole is enlarged so a counter sunk screw will fit flush
Counterboring allows the head of a bolt to fit flush. How is this done By making the upper diameter of the hole bigger
What is the benefit of spot facing It makes the surface uneven letting the head of a bolt fit flush
What do reamers do The finish the inside of a hole accurately and smoothly
