How are objects in space related and what impacts this relationship?
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Light Year | A unit of length equal to the distance that light travels through space in one year |
| Astronomical Unit (AU) | A unit of length measuring the distance from Earth to the Sun. |
| Universe | All of space and the matter space contains |
| Astronomical Bodies | Objects such as planets, moons, and stars, that are located in space |
| Nebulae | Vast clouds of dust and gas that are pulled together by gravity and eventually give Birth to Stars |
| Star | A huge ball of gas that produces its own energy, mostly through nuclear reactions in its core |
| Planet | Object that orbits a star and are round due to their own gravity |
| Dwarf Planets | An astronomical body that orbits the sun, has enough mass to assume a nearly round shape but has not cleared the neighbordhood around its orbit |
| Moon | Matter that orbit planet and asteroids in our solar system |
| Asteroid | small, rocky objects that orbit the sun and are smaller than planets |
| Comet | a large object made of dust and ice that orbits the sun and has a long, streaming tail |
| Galaxy | Made of millions of stars, interstellar gas, and dust held together by gravity |
