Thermal Energy
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Conduction | the transfer of thermal energy between objects in direct contact with each other |
| Convection | the transfer of thermal energy through currents in liquids and gases |
| Radiation | the transfer of thermal energy from a light source (e.g., Sun, fire, light bulb, and burner) to an object or substance |
| Thermal energy | energy resulting from the motion of particles measured as the temperature of substances |
| Thermal equilibrium | two substances in the same system exchange no thermal energy and are at the same temperature |
| Energy transfer | the relocation of energy from one place to another, usually in a different form. |
| Kinetic energy | a form of energy that an object or a particle has by reason of its motion. |
| Medium | A substance that makes possible the transfer of energy from one location to another, especially through waves. |
| Molecules | a group of two or more atoms that form the smallest identifiable unit into which a pure substance can be divided and still retain the composition and chemical properties of that substance. |
| System | a collection of objects (or smaller systems) that can be identified. |
| Temperature | a measure of the average kinetic energy of the particles in matter. |
