Parts and their Functions
| Term | Definition |

| nosepiece | movable circular structure that houses all the objective lenses |
| head | holds & connects the eyepieces to the objective lenses |
| eyepiece | part is used to look at the specimen |
| objective lenses | lenses that is closest to the specimen; magnifies the specimen |
| arm | supports the microscope head and attaches it to the |
| slide clips | hold the specimen slides in place |
| stage | section in which the specimen is placed for viewing |
| course adjustment | used for focusing the image under low power magnification |
| fine adjustment | used to sharpen the image |
| base | bottom supports the microscope |
| light source | also called the illuminator as it can be a bulb or mirror |
| diaphragm | primary role is to control the amount of light that reaches the specimen |
