Mitosis

Part C

QuestionAnswer
Explain Interphase? There is 2 growth phases where the cell is growing and developing its organelles and one synthesis phase where the chromosomes replicate in the nucleus(double in number).
What are the 4 stages of MItosis? Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase and, Telophase
What happens in the Prophase? Centrioles move to opposite poles. Nuclear envelope disapears. Chromatin coil up into chromosomes. 1st phase of mitosis
What happens in Metaphase? Spindle fibres attact to the chromosomes VIA centromeres.
What happens in the Anaphase? Spindle fibres retract and pull half of each chromosome to each centriole. Chromosomes are split into chromatids.
What happens in the Telophase? Spindle fibres back in the centrioles. Neclear envelops starts to form back around each set of chromosomes (2 nuclei form). Chromosomes uncoil to become chromatins.
What are the first 2 cell checkpoints? Checkpoint #1: Check for lack of nutrients to support growth(first growth phase) #2: Check if DNA strants have been replicated properly or damaged. (interphase)
What is the last cell checkpoint? #3: Check if the chromosomes have attached themselves to spindle fibres (metaphase).
Cytokinesis This is the last part of Mitosis. In this phase cell membrane pinches off in the middle and separates into 2 cells.
When does Apotosis happen and what happens? Apotosis occurs when cells are too old to function. The cells self destruct themselves VIA lysosomes.
What are some traits of cancer cells? Undergo mitosis unlimited times. Create tumors. Takes place of functioning cells and have no function. (stops valuable organs from doing their jobs). Cancer Cells Multiply
How do tumors form? Tumors form when cancer cells divide and clump together literally forming lumps on the body.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
