Part C

QuestionAnswer
What is the life of a cell called? Cell Cycle
What are the 4 phases of the cell cycle called? Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase.
Where are the 3 checkpoints located? 1st Growth phase, Systhesis Phase, Metaphase.
What are Cell Check Points? The 3 main points on the cell cycle where proteins determine whether the cell should divide or not.
How does the cell die in the 1st Growth phase. The lack of nutrients to support growth.
How does the cell die in the Systhesis phase? The DNA strands have not been replicated or have been damaged.
How does the cell die in the Metaphase phase? The chromosomes have not attached themselves to the spindle fibres and have not moved to the opposite poles during the anaphase.
What happens in the Prophase? The centrioles move to opposite poles and the nucleus envelope disappears. Chromosomes coil up into visible structure.
How many chromosomes are in the Prophase? 46 pairs (they doubled)
What happens during the Metaphase? The spindle fibers attach on to the chromosomes and line them up in the middle. The spindle fibers attach on to the centromere.
What happens in the Anaphase? The spindle fibers retract and pull 1/2 the chromosomes towards each centriole.
What happens in the Telophase? Spindle fibers are back in he centriole and the nucleus envelopes start to from back around both sets of chromosomes. The Chromosomes uncoil and become chromatin.
What is Cytokinesis? When the cell membrane pinches off in the middle and separates into 2 daughter cells.
What are daughter cells? 2 of the same cell
What is a Tumor? Cells that clump together due to an uncontrollable urge to divide.
Where does a Tumor occur? Occurs in Cancer cells.
What is Apoptosis? Cell dies when its old to function
How many times can a human undergo Mitosis? 50-60 times.
How many times does a Cancer cell undergo mitosis? An unlimited amount of times
Why does a cell have a suicide gene? if the cell is damaged beyond repair and if its infected by a virus or bacteria

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
