| tropical storm | a low-pressure system that starts near the equator and has winds that blow at 65 km/hr or more |
| storm surge | a huge mass of ocean water pushed by a hurricane as it moves into a coastal area |
| front | a boundary between air masses |
| meteorologist | a scientist who studies weather |
| low-pressure system | a large weather system that surrounds a center of low pressure as air moves inward and then up to higher altitudes |
| tornado | a violently rotating column of air stretching from a cloud to the ground |
| hurricane | a tropical low-pressure system with winds blowing at speeds of 120 km/hr or more - strong enough to uproot trees |
| isobar | a line that connects places that have the same air pressure |
| air mass | a large volume of air in which temperature and humidity are nearly the same in different locations at the same altitude |
| thunderstorm | a storm with lightning and thunder |
| high-pressure system | formed when air moves all the way around a high-pressure center as air sinks slowly down |
| blizzard | blinding snow storms with winds of a least 56 km/hr and low temperatures - usually below -7℃ (20℉) |
