Natural hazard A hazardous event that causes unacceptably large numbers of fatalities
Natural disaster the negative impact following an actual occurrence of natural hazard in the event that it significantly harms a community
Earthquake the sudden release of strain energy in the Earth's crust, resulting in waves of shaking that radiate outwards from the earthquake source
Tsunami a series of extremely long waves caused by a large and sudden displacement of the ocean, usually the result of an earthquake below or near the ocean floor
Volcano an opening in the earth's crust through which lava, volcanic ash, and gases escape
Flooding An overflow of water onto normally dry land
