What are the four basic features of all chordates? And when are these features visible in humans? Hollow nerve cord, notochord, pharyngeal slits, and a tail. Visible in the embryonic stage.
Which two groups of chordates are considered invertebrates? Lancelets and tunicates.
All vertebrates have jaws, except for what two groups of fish? Hagfish and Lampreys
How does the skeleton of the shark differ from the rest of the vertebrates? A shark's skeleton is flexible and made up of cartilage. They must constantly move to keep water flowing through the gills. (Cartilaginous fishes).
Which group of fish are thought to have evolved into amphibians? Lobe-finned fish
What is a tetrapod? Animals with four limbs
What adaptations suggest that amphibians are still tied to water? Which suggest that they are also adapted to live on land? Amphibians in their juvenile stage contain gills and they must lay their eggs in water. They have terrestrial characteristics like a musculoskeletal system, lungs, & moist skin.
What is different about the eggs laid by reptiles, compared to amphibians? Which tetrapods are considered reptiles? Reptile eggs can be hatched on land, are shelled, and the hatchlings are mini versions of the adults.
Which mammals raise their young in pouches? Marsupials
Which mammals nourish young within a placenta? Eutherians
Which group of mammals do humans belong to? Eutherians
