Wave properties

Topic one lesson one waves

TermDefinition
Wave A disturbance that transfers energy from place to place
Mechanical wave A wave that a medium through just to travel
Medium The material through in which a wave travels
Electromagnetic radiation The energy transferred through space by electromagnetic waves.
Traverse wave A wave that moves the medium at a right angle to the direction on which it travels
Amplitude The height of a traverse wave from the center to the crest or though
Longitudinal wave A wave that moves the medium in a direction parallel to the direction in which the wave travels
Wave length The distance between two corresponding parts of a wave such as the distance between two crests
Frequency The number of of complete waves that pass a given point in a certain amount of time.
Crest High point of an wave
Trough The low point of a wave
Node A point where the wave crosses the resting line
