| dormancy | A period when an organism's growth or activity stops. |
| environment | The surroundings or conditions in which a person, animal, or plant lives or operates. |
| function | The special, normal, or proper action or behavior of an organ or body part. |
| habitat | The natural home or environment of an animal, plant, or other organism. |
| inherited traits | Characteristics that are passed from parent to offspring. |
| learned behavior | A behavior that has been learned from experience or observation. |
| migration | To move from one place to another in search of food, water, or different temperature |
| offspring | Product of reproduction, a new organism produced by one or more parents. |
| species | A group of living organisms consisting of similar individuals capable of producing offspring. |
| structure | A body part that does a certain "job" for an organism. |
| survive | To stay alive. |
| hibernate | To spend the winter in a resting state. |
| instinctive behavior | A behavior that a living thing does naturally without learning it. |
| instincts | The biologically determined and innate patterns of behavior that exist in both people and animals. |
