| deposition | when sediments settle (at the bottom of a river) |
| subsidence | when land compacts and sinks |
| salinity | measurement of amount of salt in water |
| levees | raised bank of earth that protects from flooding |
| food chain | the order through with energy passes from one organism to another |
| producers | organisms that can make their own food |
| consumers | organisms that must eat other organisms for energy |
