Where do vascular plants store starches? In its root, which is the "sugar sink"
Where does photosynthesis occur (the sugar source)? In the leaves of the plant. This is above ground.
Xylem Tiny pipes made of dead cells that transport water and minerals from roots to shoots. Uses transpiration (roots to tips)
Phloem Living cells that transport sugar from where it is made or stored to where it is needed.
Which plants are considered seedless vascular plants? lycophytes and ferns
Why are seedless vascular plants taller than bryophytes? Because they contain lignin and a vascular system
Why are seedless vascular plants restricted to a moist environment? Seedless vascular plants release sperm that must swim through water to reach an egg
What are gymnosperms? Plants that contain seeds within cones
What is a seed and what does it contain? A seed consists of an embryo and food supply inside a protective coating
What is pollen? a microscopic, dust-like grain which is released by the male cones or flower which contains the male gametes.
Which two types of plants reproduce using pollen and seeds? Gymnosperms and Angiosperms
What is the sex organ of an angiosperm? Flower
Endosperm a food supply that will be absorbed during germination
What is a fruit? a mature ovary
What are the vast majority of modern plants? angiosperms, flowering plants
