Lights years over long period of time
astronomical unit the mean distance from the center of the earth to the center of the sun.

Galaxy a system of millions or billions of stars held together by gravitational attraction.
Celestial Object a naturally occurring physical entity, association, or structure that exists within the observable universe.

Dwarf Planets Dwarf planets like Pluto were defined as objects that orbit the Sun.
Moons the natural satellite of the earth
Asteroids a small rocky body orbiting the sun.
Comet a celestial object consisting of a nucleus of ice and dust

Spectra A band of colors
Wavelength the distance between successive crests of waves
Hertzsprung Russell Diagram a scatter plot of stars showing the relationship between the stars' absolute magnitudes.

Absolute Magnitude The magnitude of a celestial object.
Apparent Magnitude the magnitude of a celestial object as it is actually measured from the earth

Solar Flare a brief eruption of intense high-energy radiation from the sun's surface.
Prominence standing out from something by physically projecting or being particularly noticeable:
corona the rarefied gaseous envelope of the sun and other stars
Photosphere the luminous envelope of a star from which its light and heat radiate.
Chromosphere a reddish gaseous layer of the sun or another star.
Radiative Zone the layer of a star where energy is transported outward by radiation.
Convective Zone a layer that is unstable due to convection.
