How is urticaria often described? Well-circumscribed erythematous plaques w/ intense pruritus and edema.
What sign or specific characteristic are associated with urticaria rashes? Wheals
Which type of skin cancer is associated with a non-healing ulcer arising from a scar or chronic wound? Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the skin
Congenital melanocytic nevus is associated with: ↑↑↑ density of hair follicles
What 3 common factors predisposing to Basal cell carcinoma of the skin? 1. Sun/UV light (B>A) 2. Fair skin (white) 3. Ionizing radiation
What are common clinical features of basal cell carcinoma of the skin? 1. Skin colored, pearly papule ± rolled borders 2. Telangiectatic vessels 3. ± central ulceration, local invasion
What is the management of BCC of the skin? 1st line: 1. Surgical excision with 4-mm margins 2. Mohs micrographic surgery 2nd line: - topical 5-FU, imiquimod, curettage and electrodessication
Child abuse: deliberate scald injuries: - Sharp lines of demarcation - Uniform depth - Lack of splash marks - Spared flexural creases
What are the names given to spare flexural creases burns in scaled injuries? "Zebra" pattern and "doughnut" pattern (butt is spared).
