Word Work Terms

QuestionAnswer
synonyms words that have the same meaning
antonyms words that have an opposite meaning
homophones words that sound the same but have different spellings and meanings
prefix a combination of letters added before a base/root word that change the meaning of the original word
suffix a combination of letters added after a base/root word that change the meaning of the original word
root word the word without prefixes or suffixes added to it
multiple meaning words words that are spelled the same but may have more than one meaning
dictionary a book of words and their definitions (meanings) and usually includes information about pronunciation, part of speech, and more
thesaurus a book of words and their synonyms
