Weathering/Erosion

| weathering | the process that breaks down rock and other substances at Earth’s surface |
| erosion | the moving of weathered material, or sediment, from one location to another |
| mechanical weathering | rock is physically broken into smaller pieces |
| chemical weathering | the process that breaks down rocks through chemical changes |
| abrasion | the grinding away of rock by other rock |
| permeable | tiny, connected air spaces that allow water to seep through it |
| ice wedging | wedges of ice in rocks widen and deepen cracks |
| deposition | laying down or settling of eroded material |
| glaciers | large masses of ice, formed by snow accumulation on land, that move slowly across Earth's surface |
| mass wasting | the downhill movement of a large mass of rocks or soil due to gravity |
| sediment | pieces of rock, sand, and silt that is broken down by weathering |
