| Term | Definition |

| Gravity | The attraction between 2 objects effected by the mass and distance. |
| Waxing | Growing in light on the right side. |
| Waning | Shrinking in light. Light is on the left side. |
| Gibbous | More than half of the moon is visible. |
| Crescent | Less than half of the moon is visible. |
| Revolve | One complete orbit made by a planet or satellite around another object. |
| Rotate | The spinning of an object on its axis |
| Tilt | A sloping position. The Earth's tilt is 23.5 degrees. |
| Spring Tide | The difference between high and low tides is the greatest. Occurs during a new moon and a full moon (makes a straight line). |
| Neap Tide | The least amount of difference between high and low tide. Occurs during a first and third quarter moon (make a 90 degree angle). |
| Inertia | A tendency to not change |
| Orbit | A regular, repeating path that one object in space takes around another one |
| Planet | A large object that orbits a star |
| Terrestrial Planet | The four innermost planets in the solar system that consist of rocks |
| Gas Giant | A giant planet composed mainly of hydrogen and helium |
| Eclipse | The total or partial blocking of one celestial body by another |
