| Abiotic Factors | refer to all the non-living components in an ecosystem |
| Biotic Factors | refer to all the living beings present in an ecosystem |
| Characteristics of Living Things | the ability to respire, grow, excrete, reproduce, metabolize, move, and be responsive to the environment |
| Symbiotic Relationship | an ongoing interaction between organisms of different species |
| Mutualism | symbiotic interaction between the organisms of two different species in which each is benefited |
| Commensalism | symbiotic relationship between two organisms of different species in which one organism benefits while the other is unaffected |
| Parasitism | symbiotic relationship between different species in which one organism lives on or in the other organism and benefits from it by causing some harm |
| Predation | a biological interaction where one organism, the predator, kills and eats another organism, its prey |
| Competition | a biological interaction between or among the same or different organisms where the organisms fight for resources |
| Food Chain | the sequence of transfers of matter and energy in the form of food from organism to organism |
| Food Web | network of interconnecting and overlapping food chains showing feeding relationships |
| Energy Pyramid | a model that shows the flow of energy from one trophic, or feeding, level to the next in an ecosystem |
| Energy Flow | the amount of energy that moves along the food chain |
| Bio Diversity | all the different kinds of life you'll find in one area |
| Population Density | the number of people, or members of a particular plant or animal species, living in a specified unit of area |
| Carrying Capacity | the number of individuals of a population that can be sustained indefinitely by a given area |
| Producers | are organisms that can make their own food through biochemical processes |
| Populations | a group of organisms of one species that interbreed and live in the same place at the same time |
| Consumer | an organism that cannot produce its own food and must eat other plants and/or animals to get energy |
| Herbivore | are animals whose primary food source is plant-based |
| Carnivore | are animals that eat other animals |
| Omnivore | are animals that eat both plant- and animal-derived food |
| Scavenger | an animal that feeds on the remains of other animals or eats decomposing plant or animal matter |
| Decomposer | organisms that break down dead or decaying organisms |
