What are the types of wounds? Contusion - Abrasion - Incision - Laceration - Puncture - Burn - GSW - Avulsion - Amputation - Degloving - Evisceration - Crush - Open - Closed
What is an Abrasion? Top layer of skin damaged - Capillary Bleeding
What is an Incision? Skin is broken by a sharp object - even edges - heavy bleeding
What is a Laceration? Tearing of the skin layers - Jagged edges
What is an Avulsion? Flap of skin torn loose - Partial or Complete
What is an Amputation? Loss of limb - Partial or Complete
What is a De- gloving? Skin completely torn off
What is an Evisceration? Internal organs protruding out of the wound
What is a Crush injury? Body compressed - Rhabdomyolysis - Ruptured Organs
What is a Puncture wound? Penetrating - Sharp pointed objects - deep damage Perforation - Entry + exit - GSW/Blast injury
What can cause Epistaxis? Trauma - Infection - Nose Picking - Hypertension - Bleeding disorder - Meds
What is the clotting Process? Vasoconstriction of Blood Vessels - Formation of Platelet Plug - Blood clot reinforces plug with Fibrin Mesh - acts as a glue + holds clot in place
Where can you bleed into internally? Thorax - Retroperitoneal - Long bones - Abdo - Pelvis
Types of Bleeding? Capillary - Brick red + oozing Venous - Dark red + Flowing Arterial - Bright red + Spurting
Vol of Blood loss in the Humerus? 500-750ml
Vol of Blood loss in the Pelvis? 1000-5000ml
Vol of Blood loss in the Tibia? 500-1000ml
Vol of Blood loss in the Rib? 125ml
Vol of Blood loss in the Femur? 1000-2000ml
