Dysrhythmias
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| hyperkalemia | changes in T wave, V tach; caused by renal failure |
| hypokalemia | early ventricular contraction, bradycardia, V tach/fib |
| hypomagnesmia | changes in QRS complexes, V tach |
| hypercalcemia | depressed ST segment |
| hypocalcemia | elevated ST segment, V tach |
| hyperthyroidism | tachycardia |
| hypothyroidism | bradycardia |
| sinus bradycardia treatment | monitor adequate perfusion, consider transcutaneous pacing, administer atropine, consider epinephrine or dopamine |
| atropine | dose limit 3 mg, only given every 3 to 5 minutes |
| sinus tachycardia causes | stress, fever and pain, caffeine, hypovolemia, anxiety, anemia, hypoxia, hypoglycemia |
| tachycardia manifestations | hypotension, dizziness because of decreased CO |
| sinus tachycardia interventions | treat cause, attempt vagal maneuvers, beta or calcium channel blockers |
| 1st degree heart block | PR interval prolonged, caused by myocardial infarction, hyperthyroidism, increasing age, electrolyte imbalance |
| premature atrial contraction | irregular atrial rate, P wave before QRS will have different shape; may feel palpitations or skipped beats; continuous monitor - precursor to a fib or flutter |
