Shell a thin, curved plate structure shaped to transmit applied forces by compressive, tensile, and shear stresses that act in the plane of the surface

external force a force acting on the system from outside
internal force a force exerted by one particle of the system on another, or by one part of the rigid body on another
tension he state of being stretched tight
gravity Gravity pulls structures toward Earth’s centre
shear force that makes one surface of a substance move over another parallel surface.
tortion Torsion twists
load the force exerted on a surface or body.
plane of application the point of contact of the force and the body or the object.
point of application the exact location at which a force is applied to a body
