Volcanoes

Study the types of Volcanoes (composite/strato, shield, cinder cone)

What does a shield volcano expel? mostly basaltic lava (very fluid lava) that flows in a long- lasting, relatively gentle eruptions
What does a composite volcano expel? gases, ash, pumice, and a small amount of stiff, silica lava (called rhyolite).
What does a cinder cone volcano expel? lava that fragments into pieces and forms cinders
Why are composite volcanoes dangerous? their abundance on Earth and their powerful mudflows. They are highly explosive, and the force can cause earthquakes
Which volcano is the most violent? Composite/Stratovolcano
Which type of volcano is the most common? Composite/ Stratovolcano
Which volcano is the least violent? Shield volcano
What are Cinder Cone volcanoes made out of? loose, fragmented cinders that fall close to the vent
Where are stratovolcanoes commonly found? subduction zones
Where are Cinder Cone volcanoes commonly found? near/on other volcanoes
Where are Shield volcanoes commonly found? Hot spots such as the Hawaiian islands
Why do Shield volcanoes have "gentle" eruptions? they're non-explosive; lava flows down the sides instead of exploding upwards
What do Composite/Stratovolcanoes look like? Large, steep, and peaked
What do Cinder Cone volcanoes look like? small, cone-shaped hill
What do Shield volcanoes look like? Very large and dome-shaped
