What are the three basic components of a homeostatic control system in order? (1) the receptor, (2) the control center, and (3) the effector
What is a Homeostatic Control System? A homeostatic control system is the body's way of maintaining internal stability and balance despite external changes.
What are the different types of Nervous Systems? Sense & Response, Independent responses and Processing possible
What are the 4 major divisions of the vertebrae brain? Cerebrum, diencephalon, brainstem, and cerebellum
How many major divisions does the vertebrae brain have? 3 major divisions: Hindbrain, Midbrain and Forebrain
Function of Hindbrain Controls homeostasis & essential bodily functions (breathing, heart rate, etc.)
Function of Midbrain Processes sensory inputs & maintains alertness
Function of Forebrain Relays sensory input to cerebrum, controls voluntary movements, controls complex cognitive functions.
What are the 2 parts of the vertebrate nervous system? Central Nervous System (CNS): Brain & spinal cord Peripheral Nervous System (Neurons & axons of neurons outside the CNS, but connect with the CNS)
What does the parasympathetic do to the nervous Conserve and store energy and to regulate basic body functions such as digestion and urination.
Somatic sense external environment & control skeletal muscles
Autonomic regulate homeostasis and organ function. Sympathetic: Fight or Flight and Parasympathetic: Rest-or-digest
