force and motion
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Gravity | the force that attracts an object toward the center of the Earth, or toward any other physical body having mass |
Force | push or pull applied to an object |
Push | to use force to move someone or something away from you |
Pull | to hold onto and move someone or something toward yourself |
Friction | force that opposes movement between touching surfaces and always acts against the direction of motion |
Mass | the measurement of the amount of matter something contains |
Weight | the measurement of the pull of gravity on an object |
Motion | the action or process of moving or of changing place or position; movement |
Inertia | matter’s resistance to change in motion |
Speed | the rate at which someone or something moves or travels. |
Position | the place where someone or something is in relation to other people or things. |
Axis | The two perpendicular lines on a coordinate grid. Horizontal axis is called the X. The vertical axis is called the Y. |
Unbalanced Force | forces that are not equal causing an object to move or change motion |
Acceleration | the rate at which the speed of a moving object changes over time |
Direction | a course along which someone or something moves |
Zero Gravity | an area that has no gravity especially in space |
Kinetic | relating to or resulting from motion. (of a work of art) depending on movement for its effect. |
Resistance | paper has resistance and falls slowly |
High gravity | a place like Jupiter with high gravity |
Float | to ascend or stay in the air like a balloon |
Deflection | to force something to go another way |
Descend | to fall slowly as if the gravity is changed |
Gravitational field | a invisible field in square meters that describes the field of gravity |
Fall | to drop from a place |
Grab | to hold on to something |
Grip | the amount of hardness when holding something. |
