Weathering Erosion Deposition
| Term | Definition |

| weathering | breaking down of rock by wind, water, ice, plants, animals, acids |
| erosion | the moving of weathered rock and other material by gravity, water, wind, and ice |
| deposition | act of dropping of sediment in a new place |
| compaction | process of packing layers of soil tightly together from the pressure of layers up above |
| sediment | particles of rock or soil that may be eroded and deposited |
| igneous | rocks created when magma or lava cools |
| sedimentary | rock formed over many years from layers of sediment being pressed together |
| metamorphic | rocks formed when an existing rock is exposed to extreme heat and pressure |
| fossil | any remains, traces, or imprints of organisms from the past |
