| Tertiary consumers | gain energy from other animals. Eat secondary consumers |
| Decomposers | break down non living matter into simpler parts for it to be given back to community |

| Trophic levels | rank in feeding hierarchy |
| Biomass | total amount of living tissue a trophic level contains |
