Vocabulary about how the planets move and act

Axis The imaginary line on which an object rotates
Rotation The spinning of an object on its axis
Day The time required for an object to rotate once on its axis
Orbit The path that an object follows around another object in space
Revolution The movement or motion of an object that travels around another object in space. One complete trip of an object around another object.
Year The time it takes for an object to make one complete revolution around another object
24 hours One Earth day, or one complete rotation of the Earth on its axis
365.24 days One Earth year, or one complete revolution of the Earth around the sun
Diameter A straight line that passes through the center of a circle or sphere
Mass How much matter is in an object
Surface Gravity The amount of gravitational pull experienced on the surface of an object
