| producer | An organism that uses energy from the sun to create its own food (green plants). |
| decomposer | An organism that breaks down wastes and dead organisms and returns their nutrients to the soil. |
| population | A group of the same type of species/organism living in a particular area. |
| community | All the different populations that live together in an area. |
| habitat | A physical/natural home or environment of an animal, plant, or other organism. |
| food chain | A series of events in which one organism eats another and obtains energy. |
| food web | A system of interlocking and interdependent food chains. |
| herbivore | A consumer that eats only plants. |
| carnivore | A consumer that eats only animals. |
| omnivore | A consumer that eats both plants and animals. |
