Respiration oxygen is obtained from environment and delivered to cells. C02 transported outside in reverse order
Pulmonary ventilation phase of respiration. Exchange of air between atmosphere and Aveoli (air sacs)
External exchange of gases (diffusion) 02 from air sacs to blood. C02 from blood to air sacs.
Diffusion partical gases from high concentration to low.
Internal exchange of gases Transport of O2 to cells and C02 away from cells by way of circulating blood
Cellular respiration O2 into cells used to break down nutrients and release energy.
Cellular respiration (Co2) released as waste product.
Respiratory regulation controls Nervous and Chemical controls
Nervous control located in medulla and pons of brain stem
Medulla regulates pattern of respiration
Pons normalizes levels of O2 and Co2
Medulla travels to Motor nerve fibers
Motor nerve fibers go to Spinal Chord
Spinal Chord goes to Phrenic nerve
Phrenic nerve does what? Regulates diaphram
chemical control receptors are found in? Carotid and aortic bodies
Chemical control responds to? increase Co2 and decrease O2
The more CO2 we have the more we want to... Breathe
The less CO2 we have the less we want to Breathe
