Term | Definition |

Atmosphere | A thin layer of gasses surrounding earth. |
Biosphere | Part of earth in which life exists including land, water, and air or atmospere. |
Clouds | A mass of tiny water droplets or ice crystals that floats in the air above earth. |
Condensation | The change of state from a gas to a liquid. |
Crystallization | When water freezes and collects in frozen form. |
Density | The measurement of how tightly a material is packed together. |
Earth Systems | The four main physical systems of the earth- hydrosphere, lithosphere, atmosphere, biosphere. |
Fog | A cloud at ground level. |
Geosphere | All of the rock at and below earth's surface (crust, mantle, and core). |
Glacier | Any large mass of ice that moves slowly over land. |
Groundwater | Water that fills the cracks and spaces in underground soil and rock layers. |
Hydrosphere | All the water at and near the surface of the earth, 97% of which is in oceans. |
Landform | A naturally-formed feature on the surface of earth, such as a coastline, dune, or mountain. |
Pathway | How water moves on land due to gravity. |
Precipitation | Any form of water that falls from clouds and reaches earth's surface as rain, snow, sleet, or hail. |
Runoff | Water that flows over the ground surface rather than soaking into the ground. |
Transpiration | Evaporation of water from the leaves of a plant. |
Water cycle | The continual movement of water among earth's atmosphere, oceans, and land surface through evaporation, condensation, and precipitation. |
