Antiphon A chant sung before and after a psalm

Responsories Musical responses to a chant
Responsorial chant A style of Gregorian chant in which a soloist alternates with the choir/congregation
Antiphonal chant A style of Gregorian chant in which two groups or halves of the choir alternate
Direct chant A style of Gregorian chant where neither the soloist or choir alternate
Syllabic A text setting of Gregorian chant in which almost every syllable has a note
Neumatic A text setting of Gregorian chant in which syllables carry one to six notes
Melismatic A text setting of Gregorian chant which includes long melodic passages on a single syllable
