Homeostasis Test

QuestionAnswer
What chemicals for communication does the endocrine system secrete/release? Hormones
Which two body systems allow urine to be carried/transported from the kidneys to the bladder? Excretory and circulatory
What do many cells with same function make up? Tissues
What two systems are needed for the raw materials (inputs) of cellular respiration? Digestive (glucose) and respiratory (oxygen)
How does an increased breathing and heart rate help cells? By removing waste products (carbon dioxide) faster
Why might a study be considered invalid / not be accepted? -The sample size / number of participants is small - There was no control group used for comparison
What chemicals for communication does the nervous system secrete/release? Neurotransmitters
Why is an increased breathing rate helpful while exercising? Your body can exhale/get rid of carbon dioxide faster
What do all body systems have in common? They all work together to maintain a stable internal environment (homeostasis)
How do neurons (nerve cells) communicate with one another? Neurotransmitters (chemical messages) released from one neuron bind to receptors on another neuron
How are the kidneys and the cell membrane similar? Both allow waste products to leave
What do many tissues with the same function make up? Organ
Why do hormones only affect certain cells? These cells have specific receptors that recognize the hormone by shape (lock and key)
Which system- nervous or endocrine- can communicate with chemical messages faster? Nervous system
What is an independent variable? The variable you are changing/testing between groups
What is a dependent variable? The variable you are measuring (data being collected)
How does the cell membrane help maintain homeostasis? By allowing nutrients to enter the cell (digestion) and wastes to leave the cell (excretion)
How are single-celled and multicellular (made of many cells) organisms alike? Both have structures that help them maintain homeostasis

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
