Multicasualty event Can be managed by a hospital using local resources
Mass casualty event Overwhelms local medical capabilities & may require the collaboration of numerous agencies & health facilities to handle the crisis
Triage Used to rapidly sort ill or injured patients into priority categories based on their acuity & survival potential
Red (Class I) Emergent
Yellow (Class II) Can wait a short time for care
Green (Class III) Nonurgent or “walking wounded”
Black (Class IV) Patients who are expected (& allowed) to die or are dead
