| Angle of Impact | Acute angle formed between the direction of a blood drop and the plane of the surface it strikes. |
| Cast Off Pattern | Created when blood is released or thrown from an object in motion |
| Directionality | Indicates the direction blood was traveling when it impacted the target. |
| High Velocity Impact Spatter | Pattern caused by an object at high speed. |
| Low Velocity Impact Spatter | Pattern caused by an object at slow speed. |
| Medium Velocity Impact Spatter | Pattern caused by an object at medium speed. An example would be a beating. |
| Satellite Spatter | Small drops of blood surrounding a larger drop or pool of blood |
| Spine | Pointed or elongated stains which radiate away from the central area of a bloodstain. |
| Wipe Pattern | Created when an object moves through an existing stain, altering its appearance. |
