TermDefinition
BALANCED FORCES forces that are equal in size but opposite in direction
ENERGY the capacity to do work; the process of transfer from one object to another
FORCE strength or energy exerted: cause of motion or change
GRAVITY an attractive force that acts between any two objects with mass
PROGRAM a sequence of coded instructions that can be used by a computer or machine to complete a task
ROBOT a machine that can do the work of a person automatically or under the control of a computer
SERVO MOTOR (SERVO) self-contained electric device that rotates or pushes parts of a machine with a numerical value
UNBALANCED FORCES forces that cause a change in the motion of an object
FAIR TEST an investigation where one variable (independent) is changed and all other conditions (controlled) are kept the same; what is measure or observed is referred to as the dependent variable
STRENGTH power to resist force
TRIAL a tryout or experiment to test quality, value, or usefulness; one of a number of repetitions of an experiment
VARIABLE a factor in a scientific experiment that may be subject to change
CONSTRAINTS limits imposed on your prototype – could be limits on time, cost, or resources
CRITERIA specific outcomes for a project
ENGINEERING DESIGN PROCESS a series of steps that can be followed to solve a problem; steps can be repeated as many times as needed with improvements being made along the way (Iterative process)
