Term | Definition |
---|---|
BALANCED FORCES | forces that are equal in size but opposite in direction |
ENERGY | the capacity to do work; the process of transfer from one object to another |
FORCE | strength or energy exerted: cause of motion or change |
GRAVITY | an attractive force that acts between any two objects with mass |
PROGRAM | a sequence of coded instructions that can be used by a computer or machine to complete a task |
ROBOT | a machine that can do the work of a person automatically or under the control of a computer |
SERVO MOTOR (SERVO) | self-contained electric device that rotates or pushes parts of a machine with a numerical value |
UNBALANCED FORCES | forces that cause a change in the motion of an object |
FAIR TEST | an investigation where one variable (independent) is changed and all other conditions (controlled) are kept the same; what is measure or observed is referred to as the dependent variable |
STRENGTH | power to resist force |
TRIAL | a tryout or experiment to test quality, value, or usefulness; one of a number of repetitions of an experiment |
VARIABLE | a factor in a scientific experiment that may be subject to change |
CONSTRAINTS | limits imposed on your prototype – could be limits on time, cost, or resources |
CRITERIA | specific outcomes for a project |
ENGINEERING DESIGN PROCESS | a series of steps that can be followed to solve a problem; steps can be repeated as many times as needed with improvements being made along the way (Iterative process) |
